Selected title German Photo Book Award 2011
The journey Martin Wellermann invites us to join him on begins in the USA. In the rear-view window of a car we see a truck looming menacingly close, summoning shades of Steven Spielberg’s film Duel. Associations of this kind and the deliberate pairing of images are central elements in this book. Photographs of rural Germany during the Football World Cup in 2006, seven eggs in Helsinki, a holey tennis net in Eritrea, Jordanian shopping carts, a mountain chain in Vietnam, a Syrian shower curtain or a clothesline in Poland, along with benches at Hamburg’s harbor, are further motifs with which the photographer shapes his poetic tale.
Martin Wellermann has been living in Hamburg since 1996, where he works as a freelance photographer. His first large-scale solo exhibition took place in 2007 at the Robert Morat Gallery.
