This book is not only a history of the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, but also shows us how such institutions come into being in the first place. Here, the evolution is traced from Elector’s Academy to School for Draftsmen, then to School of Arts & Crafts, all the way to its latest incarnation as University of Applied Sciences, elucidating the meaning of these various stages within the fabric of the German system of higher learning.
