Ernst Riegel
Goldschmied zwischen Historismus und Werkbund
At the beginning of the 20th century, Ernst Riegel was one of Germanys pre-eminent goldsmiths. An artist and craftsman in one – this is how he saw himself, in contrast to many of his contemporaries who executed prototypes for industry and trade in the role of “designer.” Research into his lifes work was difficult since all we know today about the location of many of his pieces is that they are distributed among the far corners of Germany and the world.
