Swiss artist Maya Vonmoos belongs to the avant-garde of »computer art.« By contrast with interactive Web art, however, she has used the computer from the very beginning as a »medium for a new kind of painting.« All of her animated films and digital images are self-generated, i.e. they are constructed so to speak »out of nothing«, completely artificial. The creation process is extremely time-intensive, but offers a huge degree of flexibility, representing a whole new realm of visual experience. The computer-generated films and digital paintings of Maya Vonmoos exude heretofore undreamed-of pictorial qualities – breathing life into the springtime of computer art.
